Is This Your Problem?

Check these signs. If several apply, window reflection is almost certainly the cause.

Melted, warped, or discolored patches in your artificial turf
Damage appears in specific spots that align with window positions
Damage is worse in afternoon when sun hits the windows directly
Turf feels unusually hot to the touch in the damaged areas
Patio furniture, vinyl fencing, or decking also showing heat damage
You have newer energy-efficient or Low-E windows installed

Why It Happens

The physics behind turf melting from window reflection — and why it's getting more common.

Low-E Window Coating

The metallic coating on Low-E glass is highly reflective. Unlike flat mirrors, most windows have a slight concave curve that focuses the reflected beam.

Window Orientation

South and west-facing windows receive the most direct sun in Southern California. These create the most intense reflected beams in the afternoon hours.

Distance to Turf

The closer your turf is to the window, the more concentrated the beam. Most damage occurs within 15 feet of the window.

SoCal Sun Intensity

Southern California's intense, year-round sun amplifies the reflection problem significantly compared to other regions.

The Fix: Window Film

The only permanent solution is to address the source of the problem — the window. Anti-reflective and diffusion window films are applied directly to the glass and eliminate the focused reflection before it reaches your turf.

This is not the same as standard window tint. Turf protection film is specifically selected to reduce the reflective properties of the glass without significantly affecting the appearance of your windows or your view from inside.

Most installations are completed in a single day. The film lasts 10+ years. And the problem is solved — permanently.
